Great News!
After many years of being unavailable, Los Angeles Housing Authority has opened the waiting list for Section 8 Applicants. It will open on Monday, October 16, 2017 and close on Sunday, October 29, 2017. Unlike to the application process back in 2004, this new application process is a lottery drawing that will randomly select winners from all applicants. Current sources report that there is expected about 600,000 applicants in Los Angeles. The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles will not accept paper application. Application process is going to be online.
To be eligible to apply for Section 8 Lottery, the applicant(s) should meet the following requirements:
1. be at least 18 years old
2. be U.S. legal permanent resident or citizen ( if the head of household has no legal status, at least one person in
the household should meet residency or citizenship requirement)
3. have current mailing address
4. meet income requirements
Income requirement is based on household's total annual income. To calculate your household's total income, you should combine incomes from all sources for the current year. This includes incomes of all family members who will be in the application. to be qualified for Section 8 Lottery, your total annual household income should be below the current very low income limit for Los Angeles County. For Fiscal Year 2017, Los Angeles County HVC very low income limit is as follow:
